Woodfin Police Chief Seeks Commissioners' Apologies (Woodfin, NC)

Woodfin's police chief wants an apology from three Buncombe County Commissioners who urged law enforcement to review their use-of-force policies.  Chief Michael Dykes says the statement by the commissioners was an insult to police officers.  Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan already called the statement a slap in the face.  The commissioners issued their proposal in the wake of video footage showing a former Asheville Police Officer beating an accused jaywalker.

Procession To Bring Back Reynolds Fire Chief

A procession for Reynolds Fire Chief Richard Sales is expected to bring him back to Asheville today.  Sales died in a car crash on I-40 Sunday near Statesville.  A Reynolds and Riceville Fire Department ambulance will transport Sales from Wake Forest Baptist Hospital to Anders Rice Funeral Home in Asheville.  The Buncombe County Sheriff's Department will escort the ambulance.  Sales served as fire chief for ten years at the Reynolds Department.  

Fletcher Man Arrested For Robberies (Asheville, NC)

A Fletcher man is in jail for robbing two Asheville gas stations while armed last summer.  Justin Wallace reportedly robbed a store in Patton Avenue at gunpoint and got away with cash and lottery tickets.  He also allegedly robbed another store on Hendersonville Road armed with a knife.  Wallace is at the Buncombe County Detention Center on charges of robbery.  

Hendersonville Names Prospective Site For Training Center (Henderson County, NC)

Henderson County officials say the prospective site for a new law enforcement training center is in Saluda just east of I-26.  County engineer Marcus Jones and the Henderson County Sheriff's Office came up with a list of 20 sites and later whittled it down to two.  The new site on Macedonia Road is expected to cost at least 22-million-dollars less than an original site found more than a year ago.  The county has scheduled an information meeting for the public this Saturday with the sheriff's office and engineering department. 

Two Die From Injuries In Apartment Fire (Charlotte, NC)

A woman and a nine-year-old boy are dead from injuries in an apartment fire.  Fire broke out in the kitchen of an apartment on Rose Thorn Place in southwest Charlotte on Sunday morning.  Three people inside were rushed to the hospital for serious injuries.  Michael Johnson and his aunt, Mechelle Morrison, died yesterday.  Around three dozen firefighters helped control the blaze in 20 minutes.  

Charlotte Businessman Withdraws From Bidding (Charlotte, NC)

A Charlotte businessman is pulling his name from consideration in the bidding battle over the Carolina Panthers.  Felix Sabates announced yesterday that the price has gotten too high with no return on investment.  The "Charlotte Observer" reported that Miami hedge fund manager David Tepper is still interested in the team, despite reports from the "New York Times" yesterday that he was dropping out. NFL owners are expected to approve a bid for ownership of the Panthers next month.
